August 13, 2021: Avanti Frozen Foods Expands Recall of Frozen Cooked Shrimp Due to Salmonella

Avanti Expands Frozen Cooked Shrimp Recall News – Avanti Frozen Foods is expanding a previous recall to include more frozen shrimp products due to the re-opening of the Salmonella Weltevreden outbreak by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Avanti Frozen Foods’ previous recall occurred on June 25, 2021. That previous recall was also related to the Salmonella Weltevreden outbreak linked to shrimp.

Information on the Expanded Recall of Frozen Cooked Shrimp by Avanti Frozen Foods

On August 13, 2021, Avanti Frozen Foods expanded their recall to include additional sizes and consignments of frozen cooked, peeled, deveined, shrimp sold in various unit sizes (some with cocktail sauce) due to the ongoing, nationwide Salmonella outbreak. The affected frozen shrimp products were distributed nationwide from November 2020 to May 2021. There have been 9 reports of Salmonella infections related to shrimp products.

Consumers who have purchased the affected shrimp products distributed by Avanti are urged not to consume and to return to the place of purchase.

About Salmonella

Common symptoms of salmonellosis (Salmonella infection) may include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating a contaminated food product. Illness usually lasts from about 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness.
