Avanti Frozen Foods Frozen Cooked Shrimp Recall News – Avanti Frozen Foods Pvt. Ltd has initiated a recall for certain frozen cooked shrimp products due to Salmonella contamination.
Avanti Frozen Foods Frozen Cooked Shrimp Recall Information
On June 25, 2021, Avanti Frozen Foods has recalled specific products of frozen cooked, peeled, deveined, shrimp (some with cocktail sauce) sold in various sizes because they could potentially be contaminated with Salmonella. These frozen shrimp products were distributed nationwide from late December 2020 to late February 2021. The brand names of the products are: Censea, Hannaford, Open Acres, Waterfront Bistro, Honest Catch, COS, 365, and Meijer.
The affected frozen shrimp products can be found in the table at the end of this post.
To date, there have been six (6) reports of Salmonella-related illness related to these frozen shrimp products. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) identified the Salmonella issue based on prior testing of frozen cooked shrimp imported by Avanti Frozen Foods.
Consumers who purchased the affected frozen shrimp products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
About Salmonella
Common symptoms of salmonellosis (Salmonella infection) may include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating a contaminated food product. Illness usually lasts from about 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness.
