Recalled Pistachio Nuts
Braga Organic Farms has recalled its pistachio nuts due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall was initiated after routine testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), detected the presence of Salmonella bacteria in a one-pound package of raw pistachio kernels purchased online.
Salmonella Information
Salmonellosis is an infection caused a bacterium called Salmonella. One of the most common foodborne illnesses, it occurs when food contaminated by Salmonella is consumed.
According to the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there are an estimated 1.2 million cases of Salmonellosis in the U.S. each year, with approximately 400 of those cases resulting in death.
Symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning (salmonellosis) may include diarrhea (sometimes bloody), abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and joint pain.
Braga Organic Farms Pistachios Salmonella Recall
The recalled pistachio nuts were distributed through online sales nationwide as well as in retail stores in California, Oregon and Washington.
The recalled pistachio nuts come in a clear or green standup bag, with the date code stamped on the bottom of the bag.
