Fresh Express Recall News – Fresh Express has expanded its earlier recall to include its branded and private label salad products produced at its Streamwood, IL facility that contain iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, and/or carrot ingredients because of a potential Cyclospora contamination. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 200 illnesses have been reported in association with the current Cyclospora outbreak occurring mainly in Midwest states.
Fresh Express Recall Information
On June 27, 2020, Fresh Express recalled multiple products potentially contaminated with Cyclospora. The Fresh Express recall includes salads that are marked with the letter Z at the beginning of the Product Code, which is located in the upper right-hand corner of the front of the package. Products containing the ingredients iceberg lettuce, red cabbage and/or carrots AND displaying the Product Code Z178, or a lower number, are part of this recall.
The recalled products from Fresh Express were distributed to certain retail stores between June 6 and June 26, 2020 in various states including:
- AR, CT, DE, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SD, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, and Washington DC
The recall list of the affected Fresh Express products can be found here. Consumers who have any of the products associated with the Fresh Express recall should discard them immediately.
Cyclospora Information
Per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Cyclospora infects the small intestine (bowel) and usually causes watery diarrhea, with frequent, sometimes explosive, bowel movements. Other common symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps/pain, bloating, increased gas, nausea, and fatigue. Vomiting, body aches, headache, fever, and other flu-like symptoms may be noted.
