Green Beans Recall News
General Mills issued a recall after one package of frozen Cascadian Farm Cut Green Beans tested positive for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria which may cause a dangerous infection called listeriosis . The FDA rated this recall “Class I”, meaning the recall was called “for dangerous or defective products that predictably could cause serious health problems or death.”
Information on Listeria
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that there are 1,591 cases of foodborne listeriosis, resulting in 255 deaths, in the U.S. each year.* Newborns, pregnant women, older adults, and those individuals with weakened immune systems are at greatest risk for developing listeriosis. Although less common, individuals not belonging to one of these high risk groups can also contract listeriosis.

This recall affects 10-ounce bags of frozen Cascadian Farm Cut Green Beans sold at retail establishments nationwide. These products were produced over two days in March 2014, and are printed with either of these two “Better If Used By” dates on the package:
