Blue Bell Creameries Listeria Outbreak News
After a series of recalls connected to a severe, multi-state Listeria outbreak, Blue Bell Creameries has become the subject of investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ). The investigation’s main interest is in examining the executives of Blue Bell Creameries, and their response to the Listeria contamination of many of their frozen treat products.
On April 20, 2015, the company initiated a complete recall of all products.
The outbreak, which has been linked to several Blue Bell ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and other frozen treats, has reportedly resulted in ten cases of Listeriosis, including three cases which have resulted in death.

Listeria Information
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that there are 1,591 cases of foodborne listeriosis, resulting in 255 deaths, in the U.S. each year. Newborns, pregnant women, older adults, and those individuals with weakened immune systems are at greatest risk for developing listeriosis.
Listeriosis symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, fatigue, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If the infection spreads to the central nervous system, symptoms may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions.
