Jewel-Osco Bagged Salad Recall News – Jewel-Osco had previous issued a recall on June 19, 2020 for its bagged salad products due to possible Cyclospora contamination. Jewel-Osco has issued a supplemental notice advising that a product code in their initial announcement was incorrect.
Jewel-Osco Bagged Salad Recall Update Information
On July 2, 2020, Jewel-Osco issued an additional announcement correcting their June 19 bagged salad recall announcement.
Previously, the press release noted the bagged salad with product code “S5417” was the affected product. This code is incorrect. The correct code for the affected bagged salad is product code “S5424” and is produced at a facility in Streamwood, IL.
This recall is made in conjunction with Fresh Express’ bagged salad recall due to the ongoing Cyclospora outbreak, causing infections across the Midwest. Jewel-Osco is recalling its bagged Signature Farms Garden Salad, net wt. 12 oz., sold in its stores in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa.
The affected Signature Farms Garden Salad, UPC code of 21130 98135, was sold in 12 oz. bags in the Produce section. The recalled products have “BEST IF USED BY” dates of May 16 through July 4 (5-16-20 through 7-04-20). The “BEST IF USED BY” date and the product code are printed on the top right corner on the front of the package.
CYCLOSPORA INFORMATION
Per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Cyclospora infects the small intestine (bowel) and usually causes watery diarrhea, with frequent, sometimes explosive, bowel movements. Other common symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps/pain, bloating, increased gas, nausea, and fatigue. Vomiting, body aches, headache, fever, and other flu-like symptoms may be noted.
