Shakti Group Recall Spice Powder News
As of January 7, 2016, Shakti Group USA LLC of New Brunswick, NJ recalled the 50 gm and 100 gm sizes of L.G Compounded Asafoetida Powder. This recall was initiated due to possible Salmonella contamination. The possible Salmonella contamination was discovered as result of sampling conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Asafoetida powder is a spice mostly used in Indian vegetarian cooking to enhance flavor, as a digestive aid, as a condiment, and in pickling. It is typically used in curries.

The product is packaged in a white screw cap plastic bottle with UPC 840222000149, Lot Number: 2323.
Salmonella Information
Salmonella is a bacterium capable of causing a serious and sometimes life-threatening infection known as salmonellosis. One of the most common foodborne illnesses, it can occur when food contaminated by Salmonella is consumed.
