LIQ-E S.A. de C.V. Optimus Instant Hand Sanitizer Recall News – LIQ-E S.A. de C.V. is recalling all lots and bottles sizes of its Optimus Instant Hand Sanitizer due to the potential presence of methanol (wood alcohol).
To date, Soluciones Cosméticas, AAA Cosmética, and 4e Brands, among others, have initiated recalls for their hand sanitizer products. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) last recall update was on July 2, 2020.
LIQ-E S.A. de C.V. Optimus Instant Hand Sanitizer Recall Information
On July 20, 2020, LIQ-E S.A. de C.V. issued a recall for all lots and bottle sizes of its Optimus Instant Hand Sanitizer product due to the potential presence of undeclared methanol. The affected products were manufactured between April 27, 2020 and May 8, 2020.
The affected hand sanitizer is distributed in 55 Gal (208 L) plastic blue drums and in 8.5 Fl Oz. (250 mL), 1 Gal (3.78 L), and 275 Gal (1,040 L) clear plastic HDPE bottles or tanks. All Optimus Instant Hand Sanitizer products can be identified by their green and white labels. These products were distributed Nationwide in the United States.
Each of the affected hand sanitizer products contain a lot number comprised of a letter followed by a dash and four digits (for example, L-1180). The lot number can be found on the master cartons and is written in black pen on the 55 Gal blue drums and the 275 Gal plastic tanks.
The individual bottles are labeled with lot numbers and expiration dates in the following format:
- (L) 20-02 EXP 05/2022

Consumers can return their affected hand sanitizer to the point of purchase for a refund.
About Methanol Poisoning
Per the FDA, methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death. Although people using these products on their hands are at risk for methanol poisoning, young children who accidentally ingest these products and adolescents and adults who drink these products as an alcohol (ethanol) substitute are most at risk.
