Mahina Mele Farms Recall News
After U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) testing found Salmonella in a sampling of Mahina Mele Farms macadamia nuts, the Hawaiian company initiated a recall of several nut products.
Salmonella Information
Salmonellosis is an infection caused a bacterium called Salmonella. One of the most common foodborne illnesses, it occurs when food contaminated by Salmonella is consumed.
According to the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there are an estimated 1.2 million cases of Salmonellosis in the U.S. each year, with approximately 400 of those cases resulting in death. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to suffer severe illness or Salmonella complications.
Symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning (salmonellosis) may include diarrhea (sometimes bloody), abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and joint pain. Symptoms usually appear within 6 to 72 hours after eating a Salmonella contaminated food.

The affected nut products were distributed to retail stores in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Maryland, and Virginia from Oct 21- Nov 25, 2015. The Mahina Mele Farms recall covers three lot numbers: 026, 027, 029.

• Izzie Macs! Macadamia Nuts (6oz unsalted)
• Izzie Macs! Macadamia Nuts (16oz salted)
• Bulk Macadamia nuts (5lb salted and unsalted)
• Baby Bruddah’s Mac Nut Buttah (12oz)
• Baby Bruddah’s Chocolate Mac Nut Buttah (12oz)
