Counterfeit Cancer Treatment
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a counterfeit version of the FDA approved drug, BiCNU, in 100 mg vials, has been discovered in some foreign countries. BiCNU is a brand name of the cancer treatment carmustine.
FDA Recommendations Regarding Counterfeit Cancer Treatment
As a precaution to ensure the product administered to patients is authentic, the FDA is advising doctors and other health care professional to carefully inspect the BiCNU vial as well as the liquid carmustine in the vial.

BiCNU carmustine Cancer Treatment
BiCNU carmustine is approved to treat certain types of brain tumors; glioblastoma, brainstem glioma, medulloblastoma, astrocytoma, ependymoma and metastatic brain tumors. Other cancers treated with carmustine include multiple myeloma, Hodgkin’s disease, non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas, and may be used on the skin (topically) for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
