The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) released a press release confirming that one person in Wisconsin has contracted Salmonella, likely in association with the recalled Garden of Life RAW Meal. Details of Recalled Garden of Life RAW Meal Purchased Online

After the February 2016 recall, Garden of Life reformulated the recipe to omit the problematic ingredient and changed the packaging so consumers could distinguish the product from the recalled version. Despite these safety measures, however, consumers may still find the recalled product for sale on internet retailers such as eBay and Amazon. To address this concern, consumers should not consume this product if it is from the lot codes listed in the previous recall announcements found on the FDA Raw Meal Recall page.

ABOUT SALMONELLA FOOD POISONING

Salmonella is a bacterium capable of causing a serious and sometimes life-threatening infection known as salmonellosis. One of the most common foodborne illnesses, it can occur when food contaminated by Salmonella is consumed.

According to the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there are an estimated 1.2 million cases in the U.S. each year, with approximately 400 of those cases resulting in death. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to suffer severe illness.

Salmonella Symptoms

Symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning (salmonellosis) may include diarrhea (sometimes bloody), abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and joint pain. Symptoms usually appear within 6 to 72 hours after eating a Salmonella contaminated food.
