Gourmet Boutique Listeria Meat Recall News – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Gourmet Boutique, L.L.C., of Jamaica, N.Y., is recalling approximately 286,320 pounds of fresh and frozen meat and poultry products that may be contaminated with the foodborne pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes.
Gourmet Boutique Listeria Meat Recall
The fresh meat and poultry salad products were produced between April 19 and April 24, 2008; and the frozen products were produced between October 23, 2007, and April 23, 2008. The more than 30 products subject to recall were sent to food service and retail establishments nationwide.
Included in the recall are some types of chicken salad and sandwiches sold under the name Gourmet Boutique, and several frozen wraps and burritos sold under the names Jan’s and Archer Farms.
Listeria Food Poisoning
Listeria food poisoning, also referred to as listeriosis, affects primarily pregnant women and their fetuses, newborns, the elderly and frail, and adults with weakened immune systems.
Initial symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, fatigue, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If the infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions.
