October 8, 2021: Northeast Seafood Products Issues Seafood Products Recall Due to Salmonella

Northeast Seafood Products Seafood Recall News – Northeast Seafood Products has issued a recall for various seafood products due to a Salmonella contamination.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also announced an investigation into an outbreak of Salmonella Thompson linked to Northeast Seafood Products’ recalled seafood.

Northeast Seafood Products Seafood Recall Information

On October 8, 2021, Northeast Seafood Products, of Denver, CO, is issuing a recall for certain types of seafood processed at their facility due to Salmonella. The affected seafood products are: Haddock, Monkfish, Bone-in Trout, Grouper, Red Snapper, Red Rock Cod, Ocean Perch, Pacific Cod, Halibut, Coho Salmon, Atlantic Salmon Portions, Lane Snapper, Tilapia, All Natural Salmon Fillet, Pacific Sole, and Farm Raised Striped Bass. The products part of this recall were distributed from May 2021 through October 7, 2021 to restaurants, Albertsons, Safeway, and Sprouts in Colorado.

This recall comes from several positive samples from an FDA inspection. FDA and CDC officials alerted Northeast Seafood Products of the positive samples, thus prompting the recall. Production at the facility had temporarily shut down until the cause can be determined.

Consumers who purchased raw, fresh or unpackaged seafood related to this recall are asked to return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.

About Salmonella

Common symptoms of salmonellosis (Salmonella infection) may include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating a contaminated food product. Illness usually lasts from about 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness.
