In April 2009, Blair LLC, of Warren, Pennsylvania found that their ” Full Length Women’s Chenille Robes” failed to meet the federal flammability standard, after receiving three reports of customers’ chenille robes catching fire when exposed to an open flame. All three customers died of their injuries.
This prompted a re-announcement of the original Blair Chenille Robes recall, after which Blair received four additional reports of deaths allegedly due to the robes catching fire. All nine reported deaths occurred before the original April 2009 Blair Chenille Robes recall. Most of the victims, all of whom were in their late 70s or 80s, were cooking when their robe caught fire.
