PE Lawsuit Help
The FDA has alerted the medical community and patients of the results from two new studies which evaluated the risks of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in women taking birth control pills containing the hormone drospirenone.
The two studies examined whether there is greater risk of blood clotting in women who take birth control pills containing the progestrin, drospirenone, versus women taking birth control pills containing levonorgestrel, a different type of progestrin. The studies concluded that there is up to a 2 to 3 times greater risk of VTE associated with using pills containing drospirenone than pills containing levonorgestrel.
Brand names of products containing drospirenone include Yaz (Gianvi and Loryna are generics), Yasmin (Ocella, Syeda, and Zarah are generics), Beyaz, and Safyral.
