The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) today issued a Public Health Alert for Banquet brand and generic store brand frozen pot pies due to the possibility of Salmonella contamination. The pot pie products can be identified by a “P-9” printed on the side of the package.
The alert also states that FSIS is investigating a Missouri establishment, which on October 9, 2007, ceased operations voluntarily in response to illnesses linked to their products. Epidemiological evidence collected by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state public health departments indicate that the reported illnesses were caused by Salmonella. The agency warns that consumers should not eat these pot pies.
