FDA Launches Investigation into Thomson International – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it has initiated an investigation at Thomson International, Inc. in its continued efforts surrounding the ongoing, nationwide Salmonella Newport outbreak. This investigation is continuing and additional information will be provided by the FDA as it becomes available.
The FDA’s last update came on August 3, 2020.
Following the onion recall from Thomson International, additional products containing the affected onions have been recalled from various companies, including Taylor Farms and Giant Eagle.
ABOUT SALMONELLA
Common symptoms of salmonellosis (Salmonella infection) may include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating a contaminated food product. Illness usually lasts from about 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness. Questions or concerns about foodborne illness should also be directed to your health care provider.
