Pasta & Co of Seattle, Washington, has issued a recall for its Chinese Vermicelli Salad and Pot Sticker Salad, after learning that both salads were prepared using chili oil that may have been contaminated by the foodborne pathogen Salmonella. The chili oil was recalled on April 15, 2009, by Union International Food Company as part of an expanded food recall of the company’s products amid concerns of Salmonella contamination.
The recalled salads were sold at Pasta & Co retail stores in the University Village, Queen Anne, and Bellevue locations in Greater Seattle, Washington. Since the salads were sold from the food display case, there are no UPC of lot codes. The recalled salads include:
Display Name of Product | How Served from display case | Dates distributed |
Chinese Vermicelli Salad | Display bowl with the assistance of store staff | Up to and including 04/24/09 |
Pot Sticker Salad | Display bowl with the assistance of store staff | Up to and including 04/24/09 |
Consumers should not eat the recalled salads. Symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning may include diarrhea (sometimes bloody), abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and joint pain. Symptoms usually appear 12-72 hours after the ingestion of contaminated food, and the illness usually lasts 4-7 days. To learn more, please see Salmonella Symptoms.
