On March 23, Torres Hillsdale Country Cheese, Reading, Michigan, expanded its recall of Asadero and Oaxaca soft Mexican-style cheese. The cheeses were originally recalled because they may be contaminated with the foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes.
The potentially contaminated cheeses were distributed to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
Marketed under the name “Aguas Calientes,” the recalled Asadero and Oaxaca products were sold in delis and retail stores in 12 and 16 oz plastic packaging and as 10 lb balls. The recalled cheese was also marketed under the name “El Jaliciense” in 6 lb blocks. The label may also include the name Torres Hillsdale Country Cheese.
The recalled products include all production dates between August 1, 2008(expiration date 10/29/2008) and February 27, 2009 (expiration date 5/10/2009).
