Melon Acres, a Lakeland, Florida company has announced a recall for cantaloupes shipped on August 13 and 14 to the following stores: Aldi’s in Greenwood, Indiana, and Meijer in Lansing and Newport, Michigan as well as Tipp City, Ohio due to the possible contamination with Salmonella.
After a routine inspection by the FDA, one of the test samples was identified as testing positive for Salmonella. The melons were labeled as 41 MG 10, Bin Numbers 4753-4980.
The foodborne contaminant, Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
