Cameco, Inc., Verona, NJ, has issued a Class I recall for approximately 79,312 pounds of various ready-to-eat meat and poultry products because, according to the company press release "the products may contain under-processed ham components after contacting surfaces of equipment."
While one can only speculate as to what is meant by “the products may contain under-processed ham components after contacting surfaces of equipment,” the definition of a Class I recall is clear. According to the FDA and USDA, a Class I recall implies that “there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
Cameco manufactures meat products for private labels (supermarket branding). The Cameco recall applies to the following brands:
Appleton Brand, Bridgford Brand, CV Clear Value Brand, Dean's Brand, El Primero Brand, FAS √ CHEK Brand, Food Club Brand, IGA Brand, Lay's Classic Meats Brand, Meijer Brand, Mrs. Stratton's Brand, Pro’s Ranch Brand, RED OSGOOD Brand, Quality Meats Brand, Thank You by Cameco Brand, Valu Time Meats Brand

The recalled Cameco meat products were produced on May 29, 2009 and June 1, 2009, and were shipped to wholesalers in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
