Five lawyers and two staff members from the Rochester, Minnesota, public defenders office have been out of work for several days with an intestinal illness. The group had recently attended a conference at Cragun’s Resort and Hotel in Brainerd.
The Minnesota Department of Health does not know how many of the approximately 500 people who attended the conference from across the state had become ill. But Douglas Schultz, a health department spokesman, said that the department had received a couple of calls on their foodborne illness hotline that appeared to be related to the Rochester situation.
According to Bill Wright, managing attorney at the Rochester office, there have been enough healthy attorneys to cover the workload there, “because not all seven have been out at the same time.”
