October 16, 2007: Tennessee Children’s E. coli Infection Linked with Cargill Hamburger Recall

According to the Knox County Health Department, three East Tennessee children contracted E. coli food poisoning several weeks ago from frozen ground beef patties that are part of the Cargill recall. The patties were manufactured by Cargill and sold at Sam’s Club.

The children tested positive for E. coli O157. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has labeled the strain connected with the Cargill recall outbreak # 0710NYEXH-1c.

A fourth case of E. coli food poisoning in a Tennessee child in Cocke County turned out not to be related to the Cargill recall.
